Endowments

Thank you for your interest in supporting the LSU School of Music, a constituent within the College of Music & Dramatic Arts at Louisiana State University. As this is the first version of this page on the School of Music's Web Site, please continue to check here for updates on new and current projects as well as for information about how you can play an important role in the further development of our students, faculty and programs. Our many successes in the past have been made possible by the support and generosity from many alumni and friends. And with your continued support, we look forward to the countless possibilities that lie before us!

Investing in our Students and Faculty

Of the many opportunities available for supporting the LSU School of Music, none more directly affect the quality of our students and faculty than Scholarships, Professorships and Chairs. The information below outlines the basic guidelines for creating an endowed professorship or chair in the area of your choosing. Endowed accounts are a wonderful way to leave a legacy or honor a loved one, a special teacher or a friend. (Scholarship endowments are discussed under a separate link within "Development Information.")

Professorships

Professorships in music may be created through the LSU Foundation. Endowed professorships provide perpetual awards based on the earnings of the endowment. Endowed professorships require a principal of at least $100,000. In accordance wilth LA.R.S.17:3381, the Louisiana Board of Regents provides $40,000 in matching funds for each $60,000 given by the donar for the creation of an endowed professorship. Professorships are intended to supplement the salaries of faculty who meet the criterea outlined in the Donor Professorship Agreement. Those professorships that are currently functional (donor has contributed at least $60,000 and the state match has been received) are listed below. Some donors have indicated a specific area for the professorship; for others, the School of Music has made that determination.

Chairs

Chairs in music may be created through the LSU Foundation. Endowed chairs provide perpetual awards based on the earnings of the endowment. Endowed chairs require a principal of at least $1,000,000. In accordance wilth LA.R.S.17:3381, the Louisiana Board of Regents provides $400,000 in matching funds for each $600,000 given by the donar for the creation of an endowed chair. Chairs are intended to supplement the salaries of faculty who meet the criterea outlined in the Donor Professorship Agreement. The criteria for awarding chairs are similar to those for professorships, however, chairs are the most prestigious award available to professors through the College of Music & Dramatic Arts, and represent the highest level of excellence in teaching.

Existing School of Music Chairs

The School of Music has to date received one chair (in strings) that is contained in a planned giving document (living trust).
