Graduate Student Orientation

Entering Fall 2009:

The faculty and staff of the LSU School of Music look forward to welcoming you to Baton Rouge. The first few days will be very busy and extremely important. Please plan to attend the following MANDATORY MEETINGS. Orientation and diagnostic examinations are required for ALL incoming students (LSU graduates with a Bachelor's degree must take the examinations - those graduating from LSU with a Master's are NOT required to take the exams if re-enrolling within four years of graduation). Failure to attend the diagnostic exams may result in remedial classes being required.

Thursday and Friday, August 13-14: Orientation for new INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS–REQUIRED.
A MOST IMPORTANT MEETING. Vital information will be given ONLY at this meeting. (You should receive information on this directly from the International Services Office.  Call ISO immediately, (225) 578-3191,  if you have not received it.)

Wednesday, August 19:  University Orientation for New Grad Students and Faculty
            (HELD IN THE MORNING)
An important meeting to orient you to the University and the Graduate School which has the overall supervision of your degree.  You will receive information on this orientation session directly from the LSU Graduate School. Although there is not yet a set time for this session, in years past, the orientation was held from 9:00 am to 12:00 Noon Call 578-2311 for more information.

Wednesday, August 19: 1:30-3:30 pm Orientation REQUIRED Room 115 (SOM)
General graduate orientation. A very important meeting, providing the opportunity to meet School of Music administration, receive information about registration, and complete payroll forms (graduate assistants, please bring two forms of identification such as driver's licenses, social security cards, passports, birth certificates, or INS cards).

Thursday, August 20: 9:00am - 12:00pm –  Diagnostic Exam in Music History  115 SOM
Required of all incoming graduate students, except those who have received a Master's degree from LSU within the last four years.

Thursday, August 20: 1:00 pm - 4:00pm – Diagnostic Exam in Music Theory  115 SOM
Required of all incoming graduate students, except those who have received a Master's degree from LSU within the last four years.
                                                           
Friday, August 21: 4:30 p.m. DEADLINE (for new students) to be registered; registration after this point requires payment of a $75.00 late registration fee.

August 24 -CLASSES BEGIN
