Admission to this degree program is by audition only. Requirements and procedures vary from area to area; you are encouraged to check with the Associate Dean for the specific requirements of your instrument or voice type. Taped auditions are possible; however a live audition is preferable.

Bachelor of Arts in Music


The Bachelor of Arts degree is designed as a broad-based liberal arts degree with an emphasis in the study of music. This degree requires an audition on a selected instrument or voice, or in composition. A minor in an area outside of music is required.

This degree requires 126 credit hours including 38 credit hours of general education requirements. Although the Bachelor of Music degree may be completed in four years, dropping courses, changing majors, or transferring from another institution may prolong this course of study. Bachelor of Music


The Bachelor of Music degree is offered with nine areas of concentration: voice, piano, strings, harp, brass, woodwinds, percussion, and composition. The degree is designed to prepare students for the world of performance. Upon graduation, many students continue their studies at the master's level, either at LSU or other prestigious institutions.

This degree requires 128 credit hours for completion including 38 credit hours of general education requirements. Although the Bachelor of Music degree may be completed in four years, dropping courses, changing majors, or transferring from another institution may prolong this course of study. Bachelor of Music Education


The Bachelor of Music Education degree is offered with two areas of concentration, instrumental or vocal, and is designed to prepare students for teaching music in the schools. This degree requires 130 credit hours, 38 of which are in general education requirements. Students spend the final semester of study at an off-campus student teaching site.

The degree can be completed in four years. Dropping courses, changing majors, or transferring from another institution, however, may prolong this course of study.
