Chairs
Chairs in music may be created through the LSU Foundation. Endowed chairs provide perpetual awards based on the earnings of the endowment. Endowed chairs require a principal of at least $1,000,000. In accordance with LA.R.S.17:3381, the Louisiana Board of Regents provides $400,000 in matching funds for each $600,000 given by the donar for the creation of an endowed chair. Chairs are intended to supplement the salaries of faculty who meet the criterea outlined in the Donor Professorship Agreement. The criteria for awarding chairs are similar to those for professorships, however, chairs are the most prestigious award available to professors through the College of Music & Dramatic Arts, and represent the highest level of excellence in teaching.

Existing School of Music Chairs
The School of Music has to date received one chair (in strings) that is contained in a planned giving document (living trust).
